Sponsor a Llama
Llamas and Humans
Native to the Andes, llamas are close cousins of camels.
Their common ancestor lived in the plains of North America at least 40 million years ago. Their first domestication is believed to date back 4,000 to 5,000 years ago in Peru, where humans early on used their wool and their assistance in carrying heavy loads. Despite being docile and gentle animals, they were massacred upon the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors, the destruction of the Inca Empire, and the introduction of sheep flocks to South America. Today, llamas have disappeared from the wild. Though less so than in the past, they are still raised for their wool, meat, and skin.
Animal sponsorships
Malkia and Gaspard
Sponsoring Malkia and Gaspard means giving these two inseparable companions the chance to heal from their traumatic past in an environment far from the whips of circus trainers and disdain.
Left to fend for themselves for over eleven weeks, Malkia and Gaspard had only a truck with a floor covered in waste for shelter when we rescued them. A trainer, already convicted after the rescue of the lion Jon and the lionesses, had abandoned them on a farmer’s land with other animals. Thanks to the village mayor’s alert, we were able to intervene and save them all.
Care
We transferred Malkia and Gaspard to a partner sanctuary in France where we ensure their care. This countryside location offers a second life to rescued animals. There, they are surrounded by top specialists who provide both physical and psychological care after the traumas they have endured.
