History

Dromedaries and Humans

They have accompanied humans since the end of Prehistory, helping them face the hostility of the deserts. When they become less useful for transport as they age, they are usually put to death.

If their wild ancestor remains unknown, dromedaries may have been domesticated in the southern Arabian Peninsula around 4,000 years ago. True allies of humans in arid regions, they helped transport silk, gold, spices, and salt across deserts. Today, they are still used by some nomadic tribes to travel and carry camping equipment. Female dromedaries are also highly valued for their milk. Not rewarded for their hard work, many dromedaries are slaughtered when they grow old. While some populations consume their meat, others make items or textiles from their leather or wool, particularly for tourists.

Palerme

Sponsoring Palerme means helping him recover from past traumas by surrounding him with the best care.

A circus performer left Palerme in a field without care for over eleven weeks. He would have died of hunger and thirst if the farmer and the village mayor hadn’t brought him hay and water to survive. During the rescue, he was very frightened and struggled to get onto the trailer. With time and kindness, he eventually regained his trust.

Care

We transferred Palerme to a partner sanctuary where we ensure his care. This countryside location offers a second life to rescued animals. There, they are surrounded by top specialists who provide both physical and psychological care after the traumas they have endured.

Saba

Sponsoring Saba means ensuring he regains his strength and providing him with a peaceful future.

We found Saba on a private, windswept piece of land. The circus performer who owned him had left him with a farmer for what was supposed to be ten days but hadn’t returned to collect him after eleven weeks! During this time, Saba also had to endure snow and had no shelter except for a truck whose floor was covered in waste. The village mayor called us for help, and we were able to organize his rescue in less than five days.
